Exploring The Question: Is Google Dying?

If you are getting started for the first time with search engine marketing, or if you have a small business that is fairly new, and you are just setting up your website, one thing you may hear from people is that you should focus on your online efforts on social media because "search" (or, because Google) is dying; this belief is still somewhat quiet, but because of the popularity of social media, this belief has been growing, and in order to understand the facts surrounding this belief, it will be helpful to look at some related statistics.

One of the first things you should understand, when it comes to the question of whether or not search is dying, is the number of people who use search on a daily basis; while there are about 65 percent of Internet users who use social media (which is a very high number, to be sure), an average of 92 percent of Internet users use search engines - every single day!
On top of the fact that so many people use search every single day (which, of course, is a number that is so high it is unlikely to increase any more), the number of actual searches conducted on a daily basis actually keeps on growing, as incredible as that seems; last year, the average number of searches conducted each day was an incredible three billion - and this number continues to grow each year!

And if all these things do not do enough to strengthen your resolve in the fundamental importance of search engine optimization, and in the continuing strength of search, one final thing that is interesting to note is that Google's natural growth rate is 18 to 19 percent per year; this is the overall growth Google experiences even without changing anything, improving anything, or coming up with any new innovations - all of which, of course, are things that Google does each year!
The idea that you should sink some of your focus into social media certainly has plenty of merit, as social media is extremely popular online, but you should also realize that search is alive and well - and search engine optimization will be your best bet for online success!

Tips For Closing A Sale

One of the most frustrating things when you are working in sales (and if you are in business in just about any capacity, you are working in sales in at least a small way!) can be when you have done everything properly to elevate someone's interest in the product or service you are attempting to sell them, only to lose the sale in the end; if you want to maximize your success in business, you will need to know how to successfully close sales - and the good news is, this is actually not all that difficult, as long as you know a few simple things.

First off, you need to realize that speaking about everything that is involved in the deal as though it is already done will be important; this can take a bit of practice before you really get used to it, but once you are able to convince yourself that every deal is a "done deal," you will be able to talk to the prospective buyer in this manner - and will be able to "convince" them that it is a done deal as well.

In addition to "making the decision for them" in this way, you will also want to help them make the final decision on their own by keeping everything positive; it is too easy for people to see the potential negatives (no matter how random or unlikely these potential negatives might be!), and to shy away from making a purchase because of this, but when you continually use a positive approach, you will be able to instill this positive thinking in the mind of the person to whom you are talking.

And one of the biggest mistakes many salespeople make is that they are afraid to push the prospective buyer at the end, and because of this, they end up losing the sale. To the person you are talking to, it is no secret that you are trying to make a sale - and that you want them to purchase whatever it is you are selling - so be willing to go all-out in your efforts to make this sale, pushing the person you are talking to and trying to get them to make that final decision that, in the long run, will make both of you happy!

Avoiding Bad Neighbors On Your Website

When you hear the term "bad neighbors," you are likely to think about those people who live next door to you and play their music as loudly as possible late at night, or run their motorcycle in their driveway early in the morning, but when it comes to your website, there is such a thing as "bad neighbors" as well - and as annoying as those bad neighbors in real life can be, the bad neighbors of your website can hurt you a whole lot more, as it is search engines who determine what to do about your bad neighbors!

Beyond the basic SEO factors that most people know about, there are a lot of more complicated things involved, and one of these things is the "neighbors" you are creating; search engines determine your neighbors to be those sites you are linking to, and (to a lesser extent) those sites that are linking to you, and this can actually have a much bigger impact on your search engine ranking than you might have realized.

If you want to keep from creating bad neighbors, you will want to keep away from linking to any sites that are unrelated to yours (for instance: if you have a site that deals with car parts, do not link to a site that is centered around selling children's toys!), and you will want to avoid any sites that search engines are likely to view as disreputable - such as sites that contain malware, pop-ups, adult content, offensive content, gambling, or just about any other unsavory activity.

Of course, it is easy enough to avoid linking to bad sites once you realize that this is important, but one thing that is more difficult (in fact, that can be practically impossible!) is making sure that negative sites are not linking to you! Of course, search engines do not give this a whole lot of weight, as you would then be able to create negative sites and use them to link to your competitors, thus dragging down their rankings, but search engines do give this a bit of weight - so in addition to making sure you are linking to good sites, make sure (as best you can!) that the sites linking to you are also good, and in this way you can ensure that you have good online neighbors.

A Business Guide on How to Utilize Social Markets to Their Advantage

An area of the internet that is very well developed right now is social media. An overwhelming majority of people who go online on a daily basis tend to use social media. The sites that are used include Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and Linkedin. These sites open new opportunities for any business and their owners have started to understand this. In order to help them maximize these opportunities Dave Evans wrote Social Media Marketing The Next Generation of Business Engagement.

Evans seeks to help people that work in different business arenas take the necessary steps for their business to apply social technology. He details how to implement a variety of tools that ensure higher levels of customer engagement. This is done by learning from the initial waves of social media marketing that have been done already. Moving forward in the best way possible can be done after surveying this knowledge.

One of the top reasons businesses use social marketing today is to build customer and partner loyalty is through these sites. Long term benefits will be realized from this loyalty. Throughout the company this loyalty will permeate and this is detailed in the book. A company should not use social media just in their marketing department and no other areas. The product development division, HR department, and customer service specialists can all use information taken from each site.

Other marketing books fail to take a look that is as in depth as the one Dave Evans does. Many books will glance over the topical information that is readily available about these sites. Instead Evans leads his readers down a path of greater understanding on how these sites can help each business in many different areas. Although social marketing is a relatively new area of business operations, there is more than enough information to begin incorporating it into most business plans. Don’t be left behind in the business arena; stay up to date on the newest trends to ensure long term success.

Moving Up The Ranks In Your Business

If you have started your own business, you are already the “top dog” in the company, and you will simply need to turn your focus to “beating your competition” in order to have the most success you can; if, on the other hand, you are working within a company, you will need to not only focus on helping the company beat the competition, but will also need to know all the things you can do to outperform others at your level in order to gain promotions for yourself!

In order to move up the ranks in a business, one of the best things you can do is to always show up at least a few minutes early, and to always leave at least a few minutes late; while in one sense this is simply a symbolic move that displays your commitment to the company, it will also put your in a position where you are always doing at least a little bit more work each day than what is “expected” of you.

As you take a few extra minutes each day to show up early and leave late, you should also be making an effort to learn more about the business, the business landscape, and the competition than anyone else is learning; take some extra time at home each day – even if it is no more than 15 minutes – to accumulate some extra knowledge.

And one thing to realize is that an expansion of job responsibilities will often also entail an expansion of the number of people you are working with in some direct or indirect way, and because of this, it will be of great benefit to you if you are continually working to improve your people skills, as this will put your in a position to continue succeeding each time you are promoted.

Promotions do not always come quickly and automatically, but when you keep these things in mind, you will be able to increase the likelihood of being promoted, and will ensure that you are ready to succeed when that promotion comes.

Tips For Using Your iPad For Work

The iPad is one of the most popular products these days, as it gives you a surprisingly natural way to interact with your "computer" by allowing you to hold it in one hand and use the touch screen to navigate - but on top of being used as a "toy" or a "diversion," many people find that the iPad is great for more productive things as well, such as work; of course, the iPad is great for work if you are able to use it for such, as it is much more compact and easy to transport (and easy to carry around!) than a laptop - but you must also realize that the iPad was not "designed" to be a work device, and because of this, there are a few things you will need to do in order to turn your iPad into something you can use for work.

First off, you need to realize that typing on an iPad is altogether different from typing on an actual keyboard, and unless you are an extraordinarily slow typer, you will not be able to type nearly as fast on an iPad as you would be able to on a keyboard; because of this, one of the main things you will need, in order to turn your iPad into a "work device," is a bluetooth keyboard.

It will also be important for you to realize that the iPad is not equipped with Microsoft Word - nor, for that matter, is it equipped with a similar word processing program; because of this, you will need to purchase a program in the app store that will allow you to type in the same way you would at your work computer - and while there are a lot of different apps available for this task, the one that many people find works best is Pages.

And of course, you will need an intuitive way to share files across different computers - and while you can use email for this, this process can be made a whole lot simpler by having iCloud or Dropbox to naturally share files with hardly any effort on your part.

And of course, you will need patience in order to use your iPad as a work device; it can be difficult to get used to this at first, but once you are used to it, you will realize that you are able to work from your iPad just as well as you can work from your regular computer!

The Art Of The Cold Call

One of the oldest sales techniques is the cold call. It is also one of the most widely ridiculed! One of the main reasons why it is made fun of so mercilessly is plain and simple: most people don't like receiving cold calls. In fact, a lot of people don't like having things "sold" to them at all! You have probably been at the wrong end of a bad cold call once or twice yourself. By having experienced this, you should already realize what the main key to cold calling is: Don't do it the same way everyone else does! You have already lost the battle if someone picks up and thinks, "Oh, great - another cold call." Instead, you need to figure out how to cold call differently.

Firstly, understand that you need to put in some research. A little research can go a long way, and furthermore, you can waste a lot less time. Instead of blindly calling tons of people, hoping you somehow hit the mark somewhere, make sure you are calling people who will be interested in hearing from you. There are plenty of avenues by which you can gather good information to help your cold calls, but research and studies of your own are the most valuable of all.

When the time comes to make the call, have confidence. One of the best ways to achieve the necessary level of confidence - and in fact, one of the best ways to cold call in general - is to have a script. And stick to this script once you have it in place! You do not need a word-for-word script - just a general outline of what you will say, and the order in which you will say it. You can refine your script over time as well. When you find that something in particular works, add it onto the script. When you find that something does not work, take it out.

As you gain more experience, you can start customizing your script depending on the flow of the conversation, or on who you are speaking with. Maybe you will want to soften things up when speaking to a small business owner. Add a more formal tone if you are speaking with a high-ranking executive. You will become more and more adept at making adjustments the more cold calls you have made.

Some companies cut cold calls out of their strategy completely, claiming that they "do not work." But cold calls can be a huge help for your business, provided you know how to do them correctly.
